Katy Pinke 毕珂
Katy first got hooked on Chinese internet memes during her junior year at Princeton University, when she began chasing around the “Grass Mud Horse” (cǎonímǎ): a lewd pun and versatile virtual hero that would ultimately become the subject of her senior thesis. She went on to receive a B.A. in East Asian Studies and a certificate in Translation and Intercultural Communication, before moving back to Beijing to study classical Chinese at Tsinghua University. She now works as a Chinese-to-English translator for various print and internet publications, participates in a casual ukulele troupe, and continues to dig China’s sassy online neologisms.
