Baidu Beat

Dell Streak Pro D43, the first ever handset powered by the Baidu Yi mobile platform, went on sale in China just a little over two weeks ago. We gave an overview of some of the mobile platform’s main features and highlights in an earlier blog post (click here to see post), and talked about the awesome perks offered, like the 100G free cloud computing storage space and built-in Baidu Yi Store with more than 50,000 applications already available for download. Now the deal is about to get even sweeter for those planning to acquire a Baidu Yi smartphone.

DeNA Co., Ltd., Japan’s leading social gaming platform operator, and Baidu, Inc., announced today that DeNA’s Chinese subsidiary and Baidu have formed an alliance to offer DeNA Group’s Mobage social gaming platform in China.  Baidu’s official mobile app store “Baidu Yi” offers a dedicated section for the Mobage social gaming platform, and brings Japan’s hottest social mobile games on to Chinese consumers’ handset for their entertainment pleasures. Users of Baidu Yi smartphones only need to tap twice from the default screen to access a list of high-quality mobile games in Chinese on the Mobage platform for Android.

According to the latest CCIC (China Internet Network Information Center) research report, Chinese mobile users have grown by 17.5 percent to 356 million between end of 2010 and 2011. China’s usage rate for mobile games have been also increasing steadily throughout the years. With the Streak Pro D43 being only the first of many more Baidu Yi-based smartphones to come, Chinese mobile gamers and game developers worldwide are expected to benefit greatly from this latest strategic alliance.
